If you were given a magic wand and there were no limits on the organisation you could create…the perfect place to work/culture to work in for you, your colleagues and everyone the organisation touches, what would you do?
Maybe it would be a bit of fine tuning to the current culture or maybe you’d dream bigger, really clarifying the difference you’d want the organisation to make in the world, now and for the future, and designing around that purpose and vision.
The thing is we all have access to a magic wand if we choose to connect with it consciously. As leaders we have a disproportionate influence over the culture of our organisation simply in how we show up each day, in our behaviours and actions, in the levels of trust we extend, the care we show, in where and how deeply we place our attention.
A more perfect workplace – one that uplifts, energises, enlivens, inspires and enables us all to bring our best, is within our grasp if we bring our intention and effort to it. If we consider it to be THE ‘task’ rather than something we’ll get round to.
And the magic wand question is almost as potent as a magic wand itself because in dreaming big we’re inspiring our self and others to stretch further towards the vision and building the will to overcome obstacles rather than giving up when the going feels tough.
Of course it’s not a question for five minutes at the end of a weekly meeting…more the heart of a process of exploration in which we need to engage our deep reflection, intuition, knowing, sensing, alongside an orientation to action. For sure it’s worth the effort. Now are you ready to wield a magic wand?
