Feel the force of presence
How often do you give things your full, undivided attention? We all know that feeling when someone has been fully present with us and for us. No sense of distraction – fully in it, in the moment of now. The sense that what we are saying or who we are really matters in that moment. It’s a confidence boost like no other. Giving that same gift to ourselves is also very enriching.
As leaders we are juggling so many things at the same time that providing this sort of undivided focus can feel like a luxury and yet the impact of the energy experienced by others is worth all the effort it takes to cultivate this capability.
And cultivating is what is required. We need to be able to expand in order to focus. Our consciousness needs to become larger and roomier so that there’s a ‘home’ for everything and yet nothing is competing – in that moment. As we expand our consciousness, we also need to trust it – trust it to help us know when we need to shift our focus and give something else priority. It’s like a form of creative cooperation with our higher self if you will. We expand our consciousness in many ways – exploring larger, more abstract ideas and concepts, meditation and mindfulness, contemplation and inner reflection to name just a few.
By handing over some of the load to our expanded and higher consciousness we can stay centred and connected with what’s present in that moment – thereby cultivating presence….and what is more uplifting than being fully in each and every moment of the day?
