Leading from a place of unity and presence
We rightly see a lot of action (and calls for action) in the world today to change our attitudes and behaviours regarding how we treat our home, planet Earth. At the centre of all of these sits the power of presence. Our ability to come into a deep oneness with life – all living things. Acting from a place of oneness we are able to instinctively know the right thing to do. In the same way we would never intentionally harm a loved one, so too with all other living things, if we are in a place of connection and relationship with them.
I recently had the privilege of working as part of a team to bring to fruition a five-day gathering called The Planet Within. One theme central to our focus for the gathering, which saw 125 people come together from across the world, was an aspiration to be in deep connection with our planet. Opening to that call required each of us to stand in a place of being fully present – to examine our hearts and to notice the level of connection and love we have for life in all its forms.
Truly opening ourselves to connect with another and be in relationship with them opens the gateway to oneness. And that, in turn, enables us to feel a continuous flow of love and unity that informs our actions.
Presence is a powerful aspect of leadership not because of the more ego-based connotations it can be linked with, but because to truly emanate presence we must have a loving connection with all living things. This is where the felt sense of power and energy comes from…a flow of connection to life that informs a humility and grace underpinned by a deep sense of love and unity. Leading from this place enables levels of transformative action like no other. Look at Greta Thunberg.
