The real work of agile for leaders
‘We don’t need an accurate plan, we need a shared understanding.’ Jeff Patton
Of all the words written and thoughts expressed about organisational agility, to which we at azzur have contributed, this quote perhaps encapsulates the most important aspect of an agile culture…its people.
In the uncertainty and complexity that characterise current organisational reality the ability to respond to rapidly changing conditions relies not on strategy or plans but on people, their willingness to come with us and their ability to flex and adapt.
We lead well by holding our destination in mind yet being flexible in how we get there, course correcting willingly as we sense a shift in conditions, being ready to switch to a boat when the stable road becomes a fast-flowing river.
We lead even better when we prioritise our people, engaging them in the journey, tending their sense of emotional and psychological safety, and giving them the freedom and confidence to experiment.
