A Dream of Leadership
Where does our responsibility as leaders begin and end? Clearly, we can’t be responsible for everything in reality…but surely, we must at the very least take whole-hearted responsibility for the assignment we’ve accepted.
We can look around the world today and see many so-called world leaders falling far short of their responsibility to take the tough decisions needed to make our world a safer, more peaceful, more equal and sustainable place. I accept that it’s easy to criticise from the side-lines especially when the assignment is a complex one and yet we all know when we meet leaders who are truly committed to a higher principle. It shines from their being. Their love and compassion are matched by courage and action.
Our world needs leaders willing to commit themselves to ambitious, challenging and seemingly impossible assignments – leaders who see that it’s only when we all take our full share of responsibility, together, that we can shift the dial on the intractable.
What we don’t need is leaders who see leadership as part time gig. Leadership is a mind-set, an attitude and a full time vocation. My dream is that if each of us bring love, compassion courage and action to our leadership we will for sure create a better world for all.
