Connecting with the joy and beauty of the everyday
We might seem a bit short on beauty and joy in the world right now and yet they’re all around us if we can open our hearts and truly see what’s beyond the fog of the day to day.
They’re in the rustle of autumn leaves in the breeze, or the playful babble of water traversing a rock in its stream, or the ever-cheerful song of a bird even when the heavens are pouring.
And they’re in the courtesy of a stranger making space on the path, and the genuine warmth of a thank you, and the heartfelt (rather than perfunctory) enquiry of our wellbeing. It’s stuff we experience everyday but perhaps need to pay more heartful attention to.
And they’re in the big stuff too…the perseverance that led our Government to change its mind on feeding impoverished children, and the many thousands of businesses and individuals who pulled together to fill the gap before this U-turn.
These feel like powerful sources of joy and examples of the beauty of human kindness and compassion to me.
The thing is, we can choose to live in the gloom or open our hearts to the joy and beauty all around us.
