Knowing…a touchstone for graceful leadership
Have you ever thought about the various ‘levels’ at which you know things? Of course there’s the data, facts, information form of knowing something – the everyday knowing if you will.
Then there’s the gut feel sense of ‘knowing’…that subtle yet profound feeling that speaks to us without words…we may access this when we are buying a new house for example or we suddenly alight on the perfect solution to a problem.
And then there’s profound KNOWING. That deep felt sense of connection with a truth/truths that pervades your life. This type of knowing is hard to articulate and share with others…except maybe those who have travelled your soul path with you. It’s a fractal of wisdom that contains experience, knowledge, gut feeling and at the same time is so much bigger. It has a timelessness and a spacious quality that envelopes and permeates.
It is though simultaneously challenging as it typically calls on us to live our life from a higher place. This type of knowing might be confused with a belief but it’s not really that…it provides a touchstone for our sense making and because of that it helps to ground us at the same time. For me one example of such a knowing has to do with my sense of the love that sits at the root of all humanity. Another is the interconnectedness of all life.
Deep knowing demands attention and presence in our lives and in return offers a reassuring if sometimes challenging place from which to move. Accessing and remembering it, provides a grace to leadership that is needed in these turbulent times, a grace that enables us to move above the daily drama and connect with truths that guide our journey. In turn we can bring a gentle assurance to others that is empowering and inspiring…so what do you KNOW?
