If I were to say to you that it is only through groups, through collaborative working within organisations and across organisations that we will achieve positive change in the world, would you agree?
When we think about that, it’s possible that the individual leader in us may feel a bit challenged. We work hard to establish our credentials, capabilities and impact and now we must let that go in service of the group?
Yes…in one sense that’s true.
We are asked to bring our talents, capabilities and contribution as a well-developed leader in service of the group and more importantly, the group purpose. Not as an independent ‘hero-leader’ but by seeing the wholeness of the group function, purpose and tasks. Seeing the wholeness of the resource we represent – together.
By bringing ourselves, with all our gifts and limitations into an imperfect formulation of ‘group’ or team and committing ourselves to make it better.
Through the knitting together of many talents and qualities we open up the possibility of doing the things that cannot be done by one person, however fabulous, alone.
We think bigger, we pool our courage, we tap into new levels of creativity and inspiration. We support, we comfort when needed, and we go again. Knowing that together we bring a special magic to resolving the big fat hairy issues of our modern world – in support of a better world for all.
This takes a new level of consciousness – a new motivation toward something higher and new qualities within each of us – qualities such as humility, sharing, vulnerability, reflection and more. All of them more feminine qualities we might argue?
