You are doing battle every day. Sometimes it can feel like a constructive use of energy. Sometimes it can feel hopeless.
How often do we stop to really ask ourselves just what we are battling for?
Heroes, knights and mercenaries all had/have their reasons for their battles.
As leaders we are more than mindless cogs in a machine…aren’t we? We have the responsibility to be really clear about the what and the why of the ‘campaigns’ we lead – clear for ourselves and clear for those who are willing to come with us.
Business has enormous power to play its part in the building of a better world for the many not just the few. Not by adding to the ever-growing consumerism or wasteful and harmful expansion policies. By ensuring the products and services it offers have a real value in building a better world and can be sustainably and ethically offered.
We might call it a completely new form of ‘warriorship’.
This may seem easy. But if we, as leaders, are going to be out there each day in the heat of the quest for better, we also need a new leadership operating system.
A leadership operating system with love at its core. Where we lead focused on building collaborative and creative relationships which bring deep joy and satisfaction to the participants, the stakeholders and fuel the project, initiative or challenge being worked on.
Fighting for a better world isn’t about the old style of fighting – it’s about vision, hope, belief, humanness, interconnectedness, ethics, equality, inclusion…the list goes on but you get the direction.
Fighting for ‘better’ for all. Being willing to sacrifice – relentless profit growth, personal ego, power, control, in favour of connection, inner power, upliftment, global well-being, seeing and being seen.
What sits at the centre of your fight? Are you content with that? For me it’s about helping to seed a new leadership operating system and that feels worth the effort.
