Dance like no one is watching

Start Reading

You may recognise this phrase if you’ve ever done a slightly edgier personal development programme. From experience, when the activity is explained it can make the heart quail (mine did/does), at least a little (even for those who can dance, though proficiency isn’t the point).

Yet, slowly, embarrassed shuffling becomes something freer, more essential, as we realise no one’s watching us, we’re watching ourselves. Or, rather, experiencing ourselves, connecting with our heart, our spirit.

Isn’t this what we need in organisational life, in our leadership (and in the wider world)? To break the restraints and conventions that tie us to old ways and habits that no longer serve and free up our potential, talent, adaptability, energy.

The transformation that’s needed to create leadership and organisations more suited to our times and the demand for a better world for all doesn’t come through careful change plans, assigned roles and rigidly fixed goals.

It begins with a quiet journey within. Discovering our unused potential. Connecting with our courage and the unique rhythm and qualities of our heart then amplifying through how we lead in freer, more fluid, flowing steps.

If we give more than a fig about not just our people and our business but our world beyond let’s make our hearts absolutely boom out our magical rhythm that builds connection, right relationship, collaboration.

Now, are you ready to dance like no one is watching?
