I’ve been contemplating the almost science fiction nature of our reality today and how easy it would be to ‘give up’ on any sense making or acts of leadership.
Craziness and dystopian realities can create a false fog in our minds…tempting us into a level of coma when, in fact, something completely different, and indeed opposite, is needed – clarity of thought.
I seek to catch myself – whenever the ‘what’s the point?’ thought comes in. Or the ‘I can’t make a difference’ thinking. I realise they are excuses. The point of leadership I tell myself surely is doing better. Helping to realise a higher vision – for the benefit of all.
Hedonistic pursuits or going even harder and bigger on a pathway to self-destruction or global destruction really aren’t the solution and if we are honest, we know that.
There are no excuses for ignoring the voice of wisdom and higher values that resides within. Which isn’t to say it’s easy either. No, of course not – we are being called into a new form of revolution. That can have personal cost and that’s never easy.
A revolution based on taking responsibility for playing our part in building a better world by naming and changing the inequities, the destructive decisions or choices being made, by advocating, indeed lobbying for better. Using our intelligences and wisdom to steadily, determinedly create better – whether it’s within our families, our relationships, our organisation or globally. There are no excuses for not stepping up.
That’s what I keep telling myself each day as I work out how and where, I and those I collaborate with, can play our part in the revolution toward better.
