The glue that holds the world together is relationship…between humanity and nature, between nations and peoples. The relationships in organisations, in community groups. In families. Between friends.
These are such a fundamental part of human existence that perhaps we give them less attention, put in less effort than they undoubtedly deserve.
Relationships have been much on my mind in recent days, both personally and as I look out into a world turning through interesting times.
There’s no doubt the world order is being upended, almost daily. Relationships long taken for granted as solid and reliable are fracturing. New alliances are forming, of necessity.
Yet moving from connections of convenience to relationship and, more than that, right relationship, requires deep work. To build the trust, openness, respect, understanding, appreciation of alternative perspectives and willingness to synthesise to a higher quality of action that contributes to building a better world.
As the geopolitical shifts play out, we might think we can just watch and wait. Or hunker down. Yet right relationship applies to all of us, in all elements of our lives. It’s a reality in our interactions and an energy within which we exist.
When we’re in right relationship, with our self, first, then others, we’re adding much needed positivity to that stream of energy. Playing our part.
Imagine the world we could create if our aspiration was right relationship for all. Something we can work on?
