We all know the value of hindsight. That moment when the lightbulb goes on and we can see the thread of the choices we made and the connections that emerged and how that brought us to where we are in the current moment. Sometimes we see the good threads and sometimes we can better understand the missteps.
However, often in the present moment we aren’t able to see that we are in fact stuck in our thinking or mindset – and if that is the case hindsight is rarely useful.
What if business is stuck now? And my hypothesis is that it is and that we are.
What if, despite all the challenges, provocations and breaking down that’s going on in our world, we can’t see that we are indeed stuck in an old way of thinking and being? That we could metamorphosise the very meaning and purpose of business and make a real difference to ourselves and in our world.
That we don’t need to stay on the relentless treadmill of growth, sales targets, financial performance, transaction and pressure.
‘You are not stuck where you are unless you decide to be’. — Wayne Dyer
Stuckness can evoke a feeling of helplessness, nothing we can do about it. Especially when the system in which we are operating feels too complex, uncertain and, frankly, overwhelming.
But stuckness is always a choice as Wayne Dyer suggests.
So, what if business is stuck because the leaders within it aren’t courageous enough to undergo or initiate a real metamorphosis – and like the caterpillar, become a butterfly. We know that journey means being willing to really release the old form and open to the next, higher level (and more beautiful) design.
There are many people who stand ready to help with a new design for business and to support leaders in that journey.
So, if you do feel stuck, what new choice could you be making right now?
