I was reflecting the other day that living in and with the complexity of our world today demands a number of new powers. First amongst them may be the ability to see – something of course most of us take for granted.
It can be overwhelming juggling the huge number of demands of our times – economic, technical, geopolitical, security and safety, family, the list goes on. We can read, we can skim, we can discuss and with each act we try to stay afloat at least or maybe swimming using doggy paddle.
This is where bi-focal vision can become not just a lifebelt but a superpower – something which actually helps us to thrive and play our part to help others do the same.
Bi-focal vision is the ability to see and sense inwardly as well as see and sense outwardly – the inner and the outer simultaneously. It goes beyond the physical act of seeing what’s on our plate to relating to it and the wider reality in a completely different way.
When we develop the ability to listen inwardly, deeply and connect with a wisdom that is vaster than our own intellect we see with different eyes – we see with the eyes of the soul. In doing so we shift perspective, we release blinkers, we amplify and expand – not just to conquer the complexities but to better understand their purpose and value. An understanding, a way of seeing that fundamentally shifts our relationship with the concrete world.
We then use this vision – a vision that goes beyond the physical aspect of sight, to apply on the outer, more concrete level of strategies, decision making and action. With the expanded capability we really can stretch ourselves to help make our world a better place.
I’m not a sci-fi or superhero fan but I do believe that our powers go way beyond the visible, the normal and those we are cultivating daily.
Leadership has always demanded superpowers but in truth these are inner powers – I’d be delighted to help you explore and develop yours.
